The Probation Board for Northern Ireland (PBNI) is a Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB) of the Department of Justice. Probation’s aim is ‘Changing Lives for Safer Communities’ and it does this by tackling the root causes of offending behaviour and rehabilitating people to protect the public from harm and reduce the number of victims of crime.** The work probation does to protect the public from harm and rehabilitate people who have offended is vitally important given 21.5% of crime is re-offending. Working to address the many underlying causes of offending behaviour that the criminal justice system exists to tackle, Probation ensures that the public is better protected, crime is reduced with better outcomes for people on probation and fewer people become victims. This podcast examines the work of Probation.
